Vision & roadmap
The dinner is the beginning of it.
Six evenings and a good mailing list is a nice hobby. What follows is the actual ambition — a trusted community, a private platform, and a calendar people arrange their year around.
The thesis
As everything else scales, the things that cannot scale become the scarce ones.
Every year more of professional life gets automated, distributed, and made available to everyone at once. Introductions are free. Information is free. Access to almost any audience can be bought.
What does not get cheaper is a room of twenty people who are worth knowing, who trust each other, and who will actually pick up the phone. That is getting rarer and more valuable at the same time, which is an unusual combination and the whole reason to build this now rather than later.
So the long game is not more dinners. It is to be the group those people already belong to by the time everyone else works out that curation is the scarce thing.
The roadmap
Four phases, in order, none of them skippable.
Each one only works if the one before it did. The failure mode for a community like this is building the platform before there is a room worth putting inside it.
- Phase 01 · Now
The table
The charter written, the founding fifteen assembled, and the first dinners run properly. Nothing is built, automated, or productised in this phase. The only question being answered is whether the room is good.
- Phase 02
The rhythm
Dinners move toward monthly and the space between them fills in — workshops, private presentations, project tours. The Circle stops being an event people attend and becomes a calendar they plan around.
- Phase 03
The platform
The private portal ships: directory, archive, introductions. Built only once there is a real archive to put in it and members asking for a place to keep it. The room becomes continuous rather than episodic.
- Phase 04
The institution
Enough evenings that the archive is genuinely valuable and membership means something specific. At this point a second city becomes possible — and only at this point, because the charter has to survive being handed to someone else.
A plan, not a promise. Dates move; the order does not.
What it becomes
Four assets, and only one of them is the dinner.
Several hundred people who trust the room
Not a follower count. A finite set of people who have sat down together, know what each other is working on, and will take the call. This is the thing that cannot be bought or rebuilt quickly.
Institutional memory nobody else has
Every evening documented and kept. Thirty dinners in, it holds the accumulated thinking of people who were selected one at a time — unreproducible at any price, and readable only from inside.
A year with a shape to it
Dinners, workshops, tours, and the annual table. A standing rhythm is what turns a good evening into a habit, and a habit into a community.
A name that means curation
Notes from the room, published carefully, build demand without ever opening the door. Over time an invitation carries weight because of what the name has come to stand for.
How we will know
The signals worth watching.
Attendance and headcount are the wrong measures — both are easy to move and neither says whether the room works. These are harder to fake.
People ask before they are asked
Guests following up about the next dinner without being prompted. The clearest early signal, and it either happens after the first evening or it does not.
Nominations arrive unsolicited
Members putting names forward because they want someone in the room, not because a form went out. This is the mechanism that has to work for anything after Phase 01.
Something traceable happens
A deal, a hire, an investment, or a partnership that would not exist if two people had not been seated at the same table. One is enough to prove the model; the pattern is what proves the thesis.
The portal gets used between dinners
The test of Phase 03. If people only appear when there is a meal, the platform is a filing cabinet rather than a community.
Build the room first. Everything else follows from it.
Phase 01 is the only one being worked on right now, and it is the only one that matters until it is done.
